Love Island 2021 had been accused of falling a little flat by some fans, but after last night's (July 22) dramatic recoupling, that claim will no longer fly.
Just days after three new bombshells entered the villa, in yesterday's episode the Islanders were hit with another recoupling. It started off straightforward enough, but as the numbers dwindled, things soon turned tense around the firepit.
After a rocky day for Toby Aromolaran and Chloe Burrows, Toby opted to ditch his former partner for bombshell Abigail Rawlings, paving the way for dirty looks, angry whispering, and a memorable speech from Hugo Hammond.
With only Chloe and Georgia Townsend left to couple up with, Hugo made his decision, channelled his inner Mr Hammond, and launched into an impassioned defence of Chloe.
"I would like to couple up with this girl because not only is she out-of-this-world 'bootiful', she's super intelligent, she's funny," he began, solemnly.
"If I'm completely honest, she doesn't deserve to be treated how she has been these past 24 hours, and I firmly believe that a lot of this 'test' stuff is complete bullshit.
"You deserve someone who's honest and communicates with you, so the girl I would like to couple up with is Chloe."
Unsurprisingly, Toby wasn't keen on Hugo's appraisal, slamming it as "f**king muggy" – and neither Faye Winter nor Kaz Kamwi seemed overly impressed, either.
Has Hugo just put the cat amongst the pigeons with his firepit performance, or will the villa have forgotten all about it by the time we tune in later today? We'll have to wait and see.
Love Island airs on ITV2, and is available via catch up on ITV Hub, with episodes available the following morning for BritBox subscribers.
