Love Island's dumped Islander admits they may have wasted time in villa

"I feel like maybe I should have put my efforts elsewhere."

Love Island's AJ Bunker has admitted she wasted time pursuing Hugo Hammond during her short stint in the villa.

In Wednesday night's episode (July 21), the 28-year-old hair extension technician was booted off of the show by her fellow contestants alongside Danny Bibby. Hugo was the one to announce that AJ was being dumped just moments after he called off their romance, while Millie Court was tasked with sending Danny home.

Opening up about her experience with Hugo, AJ said she wouldn't have minded taking the lead on things or being patient if the 24-year-old PE teacher had actually been keen. But as time went on, it became clear to her that he was just keeping her around because none of the other girls were making a play for him.

"I feel like maybe I should have put my efforts elsewhere, but you don't know from the first chats. It was starting to make me feel like, 'Is he a slow burner, or not interested?"

AJ went on to explain that she was initially attracted to Hugo's maturity and morals, and she was excited by the prospect of not having "to teach him how to be a good boyfriend." Despite him being her type on paper, though, she realises that the pair were ultimately not right for one another.

"Everything he said was this is the kind of guy I want to be with. I have certain expectations in a relationship and Hugo meets those expectations," she added.

"He knows how to respect a woman, he's really funny, very comfortable to be around. I just feel natural around him. As time went on, it was like, 'Okay, maybe we're not so compatible.' But the first few chats, he was approaching me and I really liked that. I like that he came up to me, made me feel comfortable.

"He's a good-looking guy and really lovely. That's all you want – a nice guy in your life! I'm done with idiots."
