ITV has addressed reports that Love Island's winter series has been axed for another year.
The reality show aired its first winter spin-off in South Africa in January 2020 – which feels like a lifetime ago now – and while it didn't return earlier this year due to the pandemic's effect on international travel, there were hopes it might come back in 2022.
But the broadcaster has now confirmed to Digital Spy that it has no plans to make the winter version at present.
A spokesperson said: "We are currently focusing on the forthcoming summer series."
Speaking of that summer series, which hasn't aired since 2019, it's still on course to come back this year – although it doesn't have an air date just yet.
ITV is keeping tight-lipped about its plans for the show, amid whispers that it will take place in Mallorca as usual rather than Jersey, which was previously rumoured.
Still, Love Island host Laura Whitmore – and narrator Iain Stirling – could probably do with some more time to themselves after the married couple announced the birth of their baby girl last week.
Laura shared a picture of herself holding the newborn in a papoose and writing: "Thanks for all the kind messages at this time. We are in love."
Early last month, Lorraine Kelly got into a bit of bother when she appeared to reveal the sex of Laura's baby while interviewing the TV presenter about her new book.
Love Island is available via catch up on ITV Hub.
