Line of Duty leads NTAs 2021 nominations as Coronation Street, It's a Sin and more score multiple nods

Debut nominees include Des, Bridgerton, The Masked Singer and Normal People.

The biggest night in television is making its triumphant return to our screens after a longer-than-usual 20-month wait, as the National Television Awards announce their nominees for 2021.

In a year that sees more streaming nominees than ever before, it's a TV classic like Line of Duty that leads the nominations in Returning Drama, alongside the shocking and emotional Unforgotten, the 10th anniversary series of Call the Midwife, as well as the acclaimed Charles-and-Diana-focused episodes of The Crown, all vying to beat the Jed Mercurio hit.

AC-12 have proven to make fine detectives but also equally fine performers, with Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure up for Drama Performance against It's a Sin's breakout star Olly Alexander and TV veteran David Tennant for his chilling portrayal of a serial killer in Des.

Des also features in the New Drama category, up against It's a Sin, Bridgerton and Normal People.

In the inaugural Authored Documentary award are five famous faces who shared their personal stories and shone a light on important issues: the COVID-focused Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, Katie Price: Harvey and Me, Rob Burrow: My Year with MND, Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency, plus a programme by an England football star whose campaigning made political waves, Marcus Rashford: Feeding Britain's Children.

Ant & Dec are aiming to bag their 20th award in a row for TV Presenter but this year they might be against the fiercest competition yet. This Morning queens Holly Willoughby and first-time nominee Alison Hammond are in contention too, with Bradley Walsh also in the chase for the prize, while Piers Morgan undeniably grabbed the most headlines in the past year.

There aren't many surprises in Soapland as the big four – Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Hollyoaks – face off in Serial Drama.

As for the performers, this year's nominees all dealt with hard-hitting social issues. Mollie Gallagher and Sally Carman are both nominated for Corrie's hate-crime storyline, but Danny Dyer, who tackled historic sexual abuse on EastEnders, and Billy Price, for the County Lines plotline in Hollyoaks, pose some tough competition.

The star-studded ceremony will be broadcast live on ITV on September 9 from 7.30pm with The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett taking on presenting duties.

The final round of voting is now open. You can head to the NTAs website to find out more about how to select your favourite, with the full list of nominees below.
