Now that E3 is out of the way, gamers finally know what to expect from all the biggest developers in the coming year, except Sony, who often chooses to go its own way in announcing new titles for the PlayStation 5.

The super-powered console has been out for several months now, and we have been able to smash our way through quite a few next-gen games that boast the improved graphics, faster load-times, and silky-smooth frame rates.

RELATED: Best PlayStation 5 deals – PS5 offers, accessories, games and more

We know there will definitely be some of you out there who haven’t yet secured your own PS5 – it’s still impossibly hard to buy one online, and physical stores aren’t offering much either – so you can read up on where you can get your hands on one with our helpful buying guide or read more info on the best retailers here.

And if you do actually own one, you’ll likely be itching to find out what the best games are so that you can experience the future of gaming.

Frankly, the PS5 line-up released so far is brilliant, and even older games like, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and the original Spider-Man are receiving bit upgrades to give them 4K graphics or silky-smooth refresh rates to bring them up to modern standards.

Both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls are two titles that are sensationally good right off the bat, and that's before you consider the cross-platform games in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion that are already available.

Since then, we've had a new Call of Duty, Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman III, Returnal, Resident Evil Village, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to work our way through, and there’s plenty still to come as we inch closer to 2022.

We know that not everyone has the spare time to play through all these games to completion, and you might only have the funds or free evenings to play one or two. Which is why we have built this guid of the top games you can buy for your PlayStation 5 right now to get the most out of your gaming.

1 Ghost of Tsushima
Sucker Punch Games
Sucker Punch Games game.co.uk
£49.99

Developer: Sucker Punch Games

Release date: July 17, 2020

One of the best games to release right at the tail-end of the PS4's lifecycle, Ghost of Tsushima recently received a 4K next-gen update that revitalises an already classic title.

You play as Jin, a samurai of Tsushima island who stands in the way of an invading Mongol empire. Reminiscent of Ubisoft's open sandbox Assassin's Creed adventures, Ghost of Tsushima stole the hearts of many gamers last year with its deep and engaging combat, stealth mechanics and wonderfully told story.

We seriously recommend picking this up if you're yet to play it.

Ghost of Tsushima is available from Amazon, Currys, GAME, and Argos.

2 Returnal (PS5)
HouseMarque
PlayStation amazon.co.uk
£56.99

Developer: Housemarque
Release Date:
April 30, 2021

One of the first major new games to release on the PS5 in 2021, Returnal is a brilliantly fun and punishing Rogue-like exploration game.

You play as Selene Vassos, a pilot who crash-lands on the mysterious, off-limits planet of Atropos, a landscape full of dangerous monsters, time-travel, and danger.

It’s a wonderful approach to exploration, as the levels will change each time you die, and you’ll be presented with a new challenge whenever you venture out to find out what happened.

There are no saves, your loot doesn’t carry over between attempts, and you’ll be facing new enemies every time you play.

If you’re into Greek mythology, you might know all about Atropos and her whimsical ending of humanity’s life - perhaps her cruel ways are relevant here?

Returnal is available from Amazon, Currys, GAME, and Argos.

3 Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PS5)
Insomniac Games
PlayStation amazon.co.uk
£58.90

Developer: Insomniac Games
Release Date:
June 11, 2021

If you’re a Sony fan you’ve almost certainly played one of the many brilliant R&C games from the previous consoles, and now you can work your way through another fuzzy adventure in 4K with Rift Apart.

Four years after the last adventure, Ratchet and Clank must stop Dr Nefarious from destroying the galaxy with his malfunctioning Dimensionator, a device that can open up rifts between galaxies.

Hopping between the neon-lit streets of a metropolis, to the dinosaur-infested lands of great, green planets, you’ll be collecting bolts, bashing bad-guys upside the head, and tearing down the evil villains' plans.

This new must-play game adds new games, new playable characters, and a chance for Ratchet to finally meet more of his Lombax species.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is available on PS5 from Amazon, Currys, GAME, and Argos.

4 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Insomniac Games
PlayStation amazon.co.uk
£49.46

Developer: Insomniac Games

Release Date: November 19, 2020

When Marvel's Spider-Man released on PS4, Peter Parker unwittingly became the poster child for Sony's gaming machine, and it looks like another Spidey is looking to take over as mascot for the PS5.

Miles Morales is a whole new game from the first, with a new protagonist, new powers, and new enemies, but following on from the same story in New York City.

The first game is widely considered one of the best PS4 exclusives, and the update to the series is a worthy contender for the new year.

Available from Amazon, GAME, Very, and Currys

5 Demon's Souls
Bluepoint Games / FromSoftware
Sony game.co.uk
£69.99

Developer: Bluepoint Games / FromSoftware

Release Date: November 19, 2020

One of the more anticipated PS5 games released on the next-gen, Demon's Souls is actually a remake of a game from the PS3, bringing modern graphics to a fan-favourite title.

Demon's Souls has been rebuilt from the ground-up by Bluepoint Games in the same vein as 2018's Shadow of the Colossus remake, with a few extra twists for Soulsborne fans to enjoy, as well as the impressive ray-tracing and graphical overhaul.

This is the only FromSoft game we will get between now and Elden Ring, but we think we can get by if it's going to be an improvement on the classic.

Available from GAMEVery, and Currys

6 Resident Evil Village (PS5)
Capcom
Capcom amazon.co.uk
£44.99

Developer: Capcom

Release Date: May 7, 2021

The latest instalment to the terrifying Resident Evil franchise, Village has you playing as Ethan Winters again, this time on the hunt for his missing daughter as well as his wife. You'd think this guy would keep better tabs on his family by now, right?

You head to a snow-capped, desolate village that is full of lycans, creepy old women, and terrifying lords.

Yes, we know you know all about Lady Dimitrescu and her towering figure, but there are four more you must defeat in order to learn the truth about the curse that plagues you and your loved ones.

If you're into creeping horrors, you'll love this one.

Resident Evil Village is available on PS4 and PS5 on Amazon, Currys, Argos, and Game.

7 Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red
PlayStation game.co.uk
£27.99

Developer: CD Projekt Red

Release Date: November 19, 2020

While Cyberpunk 2077 was first shown to us during a Microsoft game show, it released on the same day as the PlayStation 5 on November 19, and we think CP2077 will be remembered more on Sony's console.

This is, by far, the biggest game to be coming out on the two new consoles, and the hype across the gaming community can barely be contained.

And while the game itself had a turbulent release that has made it nearly impossible to play on the old-gen consoles, the PS5 allows this game to shine.

Available from AmazonGAMEVery, and Currys

8 Watch Dogs Legion
Ubisoft
PlayStation game.co.uk
£32.99

Developer: Ubisoft

Release Date: November 19, 2020

Releasing on the Xbox first (similar to Assassin's Creed Valhalla), Watch Dogs Legion is an enormously fun and chaotic game, as you can literally take on the role of any character model in the game and play through the whole story as whoever you choose.

With thousands of potential heroes to play as, from little old women to blood-thirsty revolutionaries, you must fight your way through a dystopian, post-Brexit London and bring justice to the people.

Available from AmazonGAMEVERY, and Currys.

9 Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Ubisoft
Ubisoft amazon.co.uk
£51.99

Developer: Ubisoft

Release Date: November 19, 2020

Valhalla was an unexpected but welcome entry to the Assassin's Creed franchise after the smash hit in Greece, Odyssey, but we love getting our Viking on, hacking down some Nords.

You're essentially a blood-crazed adventurer who is just planning to make a new home on the British Isles after things go awry in your home country. However, the English don't particularly like being invaded, and so they will fight desperately to boot you from their shores, unless you can pillage your way through Britain's major southern cities before that happens.

If you buy one game for your new PS5, make it Valhalla.

Available from AmazonGAMEVERY, and Currys.

10 Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Activision
PlayStation game.co.uk
£64.99

Developer: Activision

Release Date: November 13, 2020

Call of Duty Modern Warfare was one of the biggest CoD launches in its history, thanks to the enormously popular Warzone mode.

But this new Black Ops entry is building on what makes Call of Duty great, with a new Zombies mode, improvements to Warzone with new maps and weapons, and a brand new single-player campaign that takes place during the Cold War. Obviously.

Available from GAMEVery, and Currys

11 Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sony
PlayStation game.co.uk
£59.99

Developer: Sony

Release Date: November 12, 2020

Sackboy has been there with Sony's console releases for a while now, and the loyal, threadbare little baby is here for the PS5 launch too.

There are new, bigger adventures in the sequel, all in shiny 4K 60FPS with ray-tracing so you can see your little SackBoy in the cleanest graphics possible.

It's a calmer, slower pace of gaming compared to some of the other blood-thirsty releases on the PS5, but we welcome a tranquil adventurer.

Available from AmazonGAMEVery, and Currys

12 Immortals : Fenyx Rising Shadow Master Edition - GAME Exclusive
Ubisoft
PlayStation game.co.uk
£32.99

Developer: Ubisoft

Release Date: December 3, 2020

This game has come out of nowhere and impressed many an excited gamer thanks to its Breath-of-the-Wild-esque open world, colourful art-style, and the worryingly difficult task of rescuing the Greek Gods from the clutches of a mad titan.

It was once called Gods and Monsters, and was announced as an Xbox title, of which it released on first, but it came to PS5, and it looks like it might be creeping into the library as one of the best games on release.

Take on the role of Fenyx, a young Greek soldier who is thrurst into greatness when she starts acquiring the powers of the gods.

Available from AmazonGAME, and Very

13 Hitman III (PS4)
Square Enix
IO Interactive amazon.co.uk
£46.58

Developer: IO Interactive

Release Date: January 20, 2021

The last instalment to IO Interactive's Hitman trilogy, Hitman 3 brings the big, bald, barcoded Agent 47 back for another globe-trotting thriller, tasking you with eliminating bad guys in the most creative and hilarious ways possible.

Another title to get a next-gen 4K upgrade, it looks gorgeous on the PlayStation 5 with 60FPS and 2160p resolution.

One of the first major releases for 2021, Hitman kicked off the next-gen year with the deadly, hushed bang of a silenced pistol.

Hitman 3 is available from Amazon, GAME, Argos, and Currys

14 God of War (PS4)
SIE Santa Monica Studios
PlayStation amazon.co.uk
£14.99

Developers: SIE Santa Monica Studios

Release date: April 20, 2018

The grandaddy of Sony exclusive titles, Kratos is back and more powerful than even in God of War. It was voted as Game of the Year back in 2018, and we head to the Nordic mythos this time, as the god-slayer tries to escape his bloodied path through the pantheon of Greek and Roman deities.

It even got a very recent PS5 upgrade, with 60FPS and an enhanced resolution to play the whole game in 4K - well worth picking up if you're yet to play it.

God of War is available from Amazon, GAME, Argos, and Currys.
