Exploring a new era in a galaxy far, far away, The High Republic is set centuries before the Skywalker saga, at the height of the Jedi's power.
As such, the new material is bereft of familiar faces – except for Master Yoda, who features as a slightly younger version of himself.
Over the launch trailer, an unnamed Jedi narrates: "We are the guardians of peace and justice. Beyond the stars is a near endless frontier. Our order was meant to shine its light in even the darkest corners of the galaxy. There, we found an evil that none of us had trained for, that threatens all we know. For the survival of the Republic, the fate of all Jedi, for control of the Force itself…"
So far, The High Republic's interconnecting story consists of three novels – Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland and Into the Dark by Claudia Gray – as well as three comic books – Cavan Scott's Star Wars: The High Republic: The Great Jedi Rescue, Scott's Star Wars: The High Republic and Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel Jose Older.
As revealed by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy at Disney's recent Investor Day, the High Republic era will also serve as the setting for The Acolyte, a new, live-action series for Disney+.
The show, which will be overseen by Russian Doll's Leslye Headland, will explore the emergence of the Dark Side.
The first of The High Republic stories will be available to purchase from January 5.
