Power Book III: Raising Kanan star Omar Epps has landed a major movie role, as he's been confirmed to be leading thriller The Devil You Know.
Deadline reports that Epps and Stumptown and Almost Human actor Michael Ealy will headline and executive-produce the Lionsgate and Command Films movie, which will focus on a man struggling to balance his loyalty to his family with his attempts to make a change to his life.
Epps will star as Marcus Cowans, who has faced a lifetime of trouble but finally has the chance to turn his life around with his family's love and support.
However, when Marcus finds out that one of his three brothers, played by Black Lightning's Will Catlett, might have been involved in a home invasion, he ends up at odds with his brothers.
Not only that, but Marcus also ends up in the crosshairs of an experienced cop (Ealy), who has become deeply involved with his final case before he retires.
Marcus wants to do the right thing by his family, but the situation soon causes him to spiral back into the dark place that his family had helped him to overcome.
Deadline reports that The Devil You Know will also star The Wire's Glynn Turman, Saints & Sinners star Vanessa Bell Calloway, Luke Cage actor Theo Rossi and Agents of SHIELD star BJ Britt, as well as The Oval's Vaughn Hebron, Justified star Erica Tazel, The Chi actor Curtiss Cook, How I Met Your Mother's Ashley Williams, and Omar's wife Keisha Epps.
The film is written and directed by Charles Murray, who has previously worked on Luke Cage, Sons of Anarchy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Actor Epps, who plays Detective Malcolm Howard in Power Book III, said of his casting: "The Devil You Know is an exploration of family, morality, and brotherhood. It challenges generational and cultural conditioning in an authentic way that leads back to protecting one's humanity. I'm excited for audiences to experience this film for years to come."
His co-star Ealy added: "For me it always starts with what's on the page. I've been positioning myself to work behind the camera so when Charles and I were discussing another project, he sent me this script.
"My connection to this family was immediate and I was intrigued, especially because I didn't come from a big family. I wanted to be involved and after a few deeper conversations, it was apparent that my interest went beyond being in front of the camera. Thankfully Charles agreed."
